Lansiné Kouyaté, aus Mali stammender Mandinka-Musiker, begann seine Karriere bereits im Kindesalter und galt dort als Wunderkind.
Der Franzose David Neerman ist ein Freigeist, der sich in keine Stilschublade stecken lässt.
Kouyaté und Neerman entstammen weit entfernten Welten und doch ergänzen sie sich wie Brüder. Gemeinsam mit Kontrabassist Ira Coleman und Drummer Laurent Robin haben sie in Paris ein so noch nicht gehörtes Klangkonzept entwickelt. Die beiden Mallet-Meister und ihre Mitstreiter verbinden Afro-Beats , lyrischen Modernjazz à la Gary Burton, Experimente mit elektronischen Verfremdungen, Dub und repetitive Klangmuster in Minimal-Music-Manier zu einer gleichermaßen traditionsverbundenen und innovativen Instrumentalmusik.
Beim Balafon befinden sich Klangplatten aus Guéni-Holz über Resonanzkörpern aus Kürbis-Kalebassen. Diese naturverbundene Konstruktion führt zu einem archaisch anmutenden Afro-Sound. Dieser Sound kontrastiert reizvoll den hart-metallischen, manchmal sphärisch-schwebenden Neuzeitklang von David Neermans Vibraphon.

Lansiné Kouyaté, the Malian Mandingo musician, began his career in his infancy and was considered by many to be a child prodigy.
The Frenchman David Neerman is a free spirit who can’t be put into any particular musical category.
Kouyaté and Neerman come from completely different worlds but they work together like brothers. In Paris, together with double bassist Ira
Coleman and drummer Laurent Robin, they developed a completely new musical concept. Both these masters of percussion and their fellow
comrades combine Afro beats, lyrical modern jazz à la Gary Burton, experiments with electronic alienation, dub and repetitive sound
patterns in a minimalist music fashion to make innovative, yet traditionally informed, instrumental music.
Sound boards made out of “guéni” wood are placed over calabash resonators to form the balaphone. This natural construction leads to
an archaic, Africanesque sound which delightfully contrasts with the metallic, sometimes spherical floating modern sound of David
Neerman’s vibraphone.
