Der Pariser Jean-Luc Fillon hat die Oboe, die bislang weitgehend in der Klassik Anwendung fand, für die improvisierte Musik entdeckt und so einen neuen Klang im Jazz kreiert.
In seinem Trio OBOA, mit dem portugiesischen Pianisten João Paulo und dem Tambourinvirtuosen Jarrod Cagwin schafft er eine faszinierende Musik, die aktuellen Jazz mit einem mysteriösen Hauch von Mittelmeer und Orient verströmt! João Paulo absolvierte am Konservatorium in Lissabon ein klassische Ausbildung, arbeitete aber bereits parallel dazu im Jazz. Daneben lässt der inzwischen in Paris lebende Paulo in sein Spiel immer wieder Elemente der traditionellen portugiesischen Folklore einfließen.
Jarrod Cagwin gilt als einer der führenden Virtuosen auf dem Tambourin und den Rahmentrommeln. Der auf einer Farm in Iowa/USA geborene Cagwin lebt mittlerweile in Wien. Er ist einer der gefragtesten Trommler der World / Crossoverszene und arbeitete u.a. mit Rabih Abou Khalil, Gary Burton, Charlie Mariano u.v.a. Größen der Szene!

The Parisian Jean-Luc Fillon has discovered that the oboe – until now used predominantly in the classical music world – can also be used for improvised music, and in so doing has come up with a new musical flavour.
His trio, OBOA, with the Portuguese pianist João Paulo and the tambourine virtuoso Jarrod Cagwin, creates fascinating music which exudes modern jazz with a mysterious hint of the Mediterranean and the Orient. Although João Paulo graduated from the academy of music in Lisbon with a qualification in classical music he was also involved in jazz. Paulo, who currently lives in Paris, incorporates elements of traditional Portuguese folklore in his playing.
Jarrod Cagwin can be counted amongst the leading tambourine and frame drum virtuosos. Cagwin, who was born on a farm in the state of Iowa in the USA, currently lives in Vienna. He is one of the most sought after drummers in the world/crossover scene and has worked with, among others, Rabih Abou Khalil, Gary Burton, Charlie Mariano as well as many more of the greats from this scene!
